The first American American, first woman, and first non-legislator to be elected to the South Carolina Public Service Commission, Marjorie Amos-Frazier was a native of Manning, South Carolina until her relocation to Charleston as a teenager. 

Other Experience: 

In 1974, the Honorable Marjorie Amos-Frazier was elected to serve as one of three seats on the Charleston County Council, where she served as Chair of the Council's Public Welfare and Education Committee, the Industrial and Agriculture Development Committee, and the Legislative Committee. 

Named to The Charleston Federation of Women's Hall of Fame in 1991

Named the NAACP's "Woman of the Year" in 1973

Served as Vice-Chairperson of Charleston's Democratic Party from 1971-1975

Namesake of a section of Interstate 26 in Charleston, S.C. (dedicated in 1993)

Executive Director of the Alliance of Concerned Citizens for Better Government

Staff Person of the Community Relations Committee at the United Way
