Justin Thomas Williams grew up on his family’s farm in Wagener, SC. After graduating from Wagener-Salley High School, Justin attended the University of South Carolina with the assistance of several academic scholarships. While at USC, Justin was an active student leader from the moment he arrived on campus. After several years of outstanding leadership, he was elected Student Body President by his peers. Justin’s effective and productive leadership positively impacted students, faculty, and staff. As such, he was named to USC’s Hall of Leaders twice, named public relations student of the year, and awarded the prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award.
After graduation, Justin worked as a healthcare representative for a large pharmaceutical company before he enrolled in the University of South Carolina School of Law. While in law school, Justin continued his commitment to leadership and service. He was awarded the John Holland Scholarship for Leadership and Service by the law school’s scholarship committee.
Justin’s passion for trial advocacy led him to begin his legal career as an assistant solicitor in South Carolina’s Fifth Judicial Circuit. After several years as an assistant solicitor, Justin worked as an associate at a multi-state insurance defense law firm and a prominent Lexington County plaintiff and criminal defense law firm. On December 9, 2014, Justin raised his hand and swore to protect and serve the United States of America by accepting a Direct Commission as Judge Advocate in the United States Army Reserve. Since commissioning, he has served in Germany, South Korea, and deployed to a combat zone in Iraq to support Operation Inherent Resolve. Currently, Justin holds the rank of Major and serves as a Special Trail Counsel in the Office of The Special Trial Counsel at Fort Bragg, NC.
Justin is a life-long student and enjoys pursuing rigorous education opportunities. In May of 2022, he graduated from Leadership South Carolina, which is the oldest state organization committed to developing the leadership, service, and civic engagement of South Carolina leaders. In May of 2024, he graduated from Duke University’s Environmental Leadership Program with a Master of Environmental Management. While at Duke, he focused his studies on energy, economics, environment, and policy.
Justin also recently completed Command and General Staff Officer Course Intermediate Level Education (ILE), which is a graduate-level professional military education course designed for field grade officers. ILE allowed Justin to sharpen his leadership, management, planning, and critical thinking skills in a rigorous and competitive environment with high-speed Army Officers from all components and occupational specialties.
In his free time, Justin enjoys spending time with family, farming, grilling, and community service.
Justin is married to Stacy A. Williams, and they have one child – Luke Thomas Williams. They are members of Downtown Church in Columbia, SC and attend Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, SC.
